THE STOMPER’S XMAS PARTY 2002
The Hales Street Stompers jazz band are close friends of 3 in a Bar, indeed Mike Gray plays in both bands. Each year the ‘Stompers’ hold their Christmas Party at the Stafford Court Hotel in Market Drayton supported by 3 in a Bar and several other experienced jazz practitioners.
As the party progresses, and more drink is consumed, the two jazz bands, plus other musicians and singers merge into a giant ad lib band the envy of jazz fans worldwide! Here is a small selection of photographs taken as the chaos progressed.
David Sherwood and Mike Schofield scrutinise the wine list; should we have Merlot or Shiraz?
Brian Jones always safety conscious, points his trombone to the ground
All together now - “we three (jazz) kings of orient are...”
Alan Jones (Guest) So these are the black notes and these are white notes - easy really.
Tony Boden - Number 43 with flied lice - it’s in here somewhere
Mike Braund - Look, I’m fed up being here at the back - when can I get to the front and sing!
Phil Turnbull - I can’t play this rubbish, anyway I’m knackered now.
Nick Parry - Hmm, very nice decorations but where has the audience gone?
Ray Lawrence - This fiddle is far too big to fit under my chin!
